How important is the World Cup going to be for National finances? Whichever party forms the next Government, their ability to direct the finances may well be significantly affected by the performance of the England Football team during the World Cup.
A good performance by the team could give the Government the breathing space they need to announce emergency cuts to the public sector budget, whilst still remaining popular. A poor performance by the team could see the Government deciding to wait until the beginning of the new domestic football season before announcing austerity measures.
