What about the supplier? We know that taking card payments costs the supplier, so it might not be right for everyone, but where a supplier already has the ability to take a card payment, it makes sense to use a card. It also means that the supplier will get paid within 4 days, something that can be a real help right now. What if a supplier wants to pass on the cost of the card payment? Then you can still choose to pay them by BACs in 30 days instead of shouldering the costs. What’s the catch? There’s always a catch isn’t there? Well, no there isn’t, many organisations already have card schemes in place. For public sector bodies, the Government Procurement Card is offered for free through the OGC. You’re going to have to reconcile the spend at the end of each month, but this is still easier than processing invoices. So, there is no catch, all you have to do is make the most of the opportunity that cards presents.
